Seabirds, Sailing, and Lobster Bakes

Schooner Olad will be welcoming aboard the Friends of Maine’s Seabird Islands this Friday the 18th on our 9:45am sail! FMSI will be joining us aboard the Olad to teach us about the local seabirds that frequent the area as well as nest here. Please join us for this two hour sail as we scout out Penobscot Bay for seabirds and other wild life. This is sure to be a great educational event for all ages.
Also coming up in our line up of special sails this summer, the Olad will be hosting two public lobster bakes. We leave from Camden Harbor for a 1/2 day sail out to Warren Island State Park and while you explore the island, the crew cooks a wonderful lobster bake for you with all the fixings. Unfortunately, space is very limited. Luckily, we also host private lobster bakes on both the Olad and the sailing vessel Owl. You can charter either sailing vessel for a 1/2 day sail and have a delicious lobster bake on Warren Island, Maine’s beautifully secluded State Park in Penobscot Bay. The Owl seats six, making it the perfect daysailer for smaller families and groups who want a memorable Maine experience. And for your larger groups up to 22 people, the Olad is perfect. Sailing, lobsters, beautiful island…it’s the perfect day on the Maine coast.

The Great Schooner Race is North America’s largest annual gathering of tall ships. This is truly an exciting event that you don't want to miss. Today it feels like summer has finally decided to join us here on the midcoast of Maine. The sun is shining and Camden Harbor is starting to fill up with lobster boats and sailing vessels from all points. We are very happy to be part of all the goings on down here on the docks.
We couldn't have asked for a better day yesterday, as we sailed the Schooner Olad to Camden from her winter berth in Rockland, Maine. The midcoast of Maine has never looked prettier than from the deck of a beautiful wooden schooner. Our cruise took us by some of the celebrity mansions on Islesboro, by Warren Island where we have our lobsterbakes, and by the rocks where the seals lounge in the sun. Even the porpoise were out enjoying the spectacular spring day. 
Happy Spring! The Schooner Olad and the sailing vessel Owl are in the midst of getting dolled up for the 2014 sailing season. After a bit of snow earlier in the week, we have hit a stretch of beautiful weather and fit out is in full swing. The wood masts are varnished and the interiors are starting to shine. We are all very excited to get the boats back to Camden Harbor, unfurl the sails and go for a scenic cruise around the Maine coast in Penobscot Bay.
