On this day in 2005, Aaron Lincoln bought the Schooner Olad! For the last 19 years Aaron has been the steward and operator of this historic 1927 sailing yacht.

Aaron worked as a captain for the previous owners, Sue and John Nugent, for many years before buying the boat. Prior to that, the Nugents owned and operated the Olad as a daysailer in Camden through the 1980s and 90s. In the late 90s the Nugents completed an extensive rebuild of the vessel, ensuring it would continue to sail for many year to come! Aaron began working for the Nugents in 2000, and eventually purchased the vessel in 2005.

Since then Aaron has enjoyed sailing the waters of Penobscot Bay on the Schooner Olad, sharing the beauty and history of the region with visitors from all over the world!

It's hard to beat a sail on Penobscot Bay, and even harder to beat a sail that includes a stop on Warren Island for a traditional Maine Lobster Bake! The Olad has two public lobster bake sails scheduled this summer, the first on Wednesday, July 26th, and the next on Thursday, August 10th. Join us for a scenic afternoon sail across the bay to Warren Island State Park where our crew will prepare a traditional Maine lobster bake over an open fire with all the fixings! Then, bellies full of lobster, enjoy a relaxing sunset cruise back into Camden Harbor while taking in the views of the sun setting behind the mountains of the Camden Hills State Park. 

We also offer private lobster bakes on the Schooner Olad or Cutter Owl throughout July and August if you're planning a family gathering, company outing, or just looking for a unique experience with a group of close friends! 

The days are getting longer, the sun is warmer, and the Olad crew is busy at work preparing the boats for the 2023 sailing season! It's hard to believe our launch date is just a few weeks away, and we'll be sailing again by mid-May.

It seems like everybody's calendars begin to fill up in the spring as summer plans are being formulated. We're looking at a busy calendar ourselves, with many special event sails including the Great Schooner Race, two public lobster bakes, and special Full moon sails all summer long. The Olad and Owl are the perfect setting for your summer adventures at sea, offering family lobster bakes on Warren Island, intimate weddings onboard, and relaxing sunset cruises overlooking the Camden Hills, and that's just the start! We work closely with our guests to make each trip as memorable as it can be.

As our sailing season comes to a close we have time to take a deep breath, celebrate our hard work, and appreciate the amazing community we are part of! We loved hosting your family gatherings, lobster bakes, and weddings, thank you all for making this season one to remember!

We enjoyed a picture perfect October day with friends and family for our traditional last sail of the season. Now we are transitioning to our in-depth maintenance on the boats. With the distinct smell of pine tar in the air, and lots of sanding and varnish in our future, we are also booking for our 2023 sailing season. We are busy building our special events calendar and planning your family gatherings. One thing we have learned over the last few seasons is that booking early is best, so don’t hesitate to call us as you plan your trip to the Maine coast. In the meantime, stay warm and we look forward to sailing with you in May 2023!

In between the storms at the end of September we got the perfect day for a video shoot with the crew of RV There Yet? Patrice, Kevin, and the crew joined Captain Lincoln and first mate Tristan on a four hour tour of Penobscot bay. With a steady 15-20 knots, the Olad got to show off that even at 95 years old she can hang with the best! Captain Jeff Lewis and the crew's drone photographer followed in the tender boat to get shots like the one you see above, as well as video footage for the show. These professionals have been in the TV business for over 20 years, watch their take on the best Maine has to offer (we think they have pretty good taste) and catch their new season airing on the Discovery Channel in 2023!
